Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Replacement Therapy

So, once andropause is diagnosed, can it be helped?  The answer often is yes.  As a patient, your goal is to reduce the symptoms of andropause: restore sexual function, increase your libido and your overall sense of well-being, prevent osteoporosis by optimizing bone density, restore muscle strength and improve mental functions.  The objective is to get your normal level of testosterone back, and also normalize your secondary hormones like DHT and estradiol.

There are a number of ways to treat andropause including oral tablets or capsules, injections, long-acting slow release pellets and transdermal (through the skin) patches and gels.  We feel that replacement done through the skin has the most advantages of testosterone replacement therapy (and is the method used most often) because:

  • It's easy to apply
  • It’s relatively safe with low incidence of side effects
  • It more closely mimics your natural body rhythms—more is produced in the morning, less as the day goes on
